Genre research

In this post I’m going to be researching the genre for my chosen brief, this is in order to highlight the codes and conventions used in a similar product and apply them to mine to help produce an effective media product of my own.
The genre of my chosen brief is a current affairs magazine, particularly focusing on the identity of today's youth, in which I will be looking at three different magazines of this similar genre.

- bold red border contrast to the soft blue interior- possible symbolism of today's generation- alarming on the outside but on the inside they are nurturing and gentle and this aspect of them may be the reason 'why they'll save us all' - specifically from the current issues that society faces today e.g. racial/gender/sexual orientation injustice as well a the global issues we face e.g. climate change- despite the fact they're 'lazy, entitled narcissists' according to this magazine.
- anchor image to the heading-
- text populates majority of the page- bold typography

- 'Allow me to introduce my selves'- image ( different identities within a technological device) anchors to this heading- through the development of society, the growth in technology and the always evolving social norms and ideologies, todays generation are able to diversify the way in which they express themselves, through the freedom to dictate how they want their lives to look like without the restriction of societal pressures e.g. from religion and tradition - 'how the next generation is using technology to mask, reveal and form identity'- using the device to conceal half of her face-mask
-soft neutral colours
-mix of bold and small typography
-two different images- one where she's dressed in traditional clothing- represents her islamic heritage- in the background- to signify that in the european society her heritage has become/or has been taught to be  secondary after the european culture- the front image used to signify the european culture
-colour coordination- text, image
red- connotes- pain (the pain of concealing her full identity), danger (the faith/ worldview that has been often stigmatised as dangerous)

Upon researching different media products which share the genre of my chosen brief, I have discovered that the codes and conventions range depending on the narrative that the magazine is trying to portray. Some of the elements of the products  that I will be incorporating will be the anchoring image to the heading or the text, a coordinated colour pallet and a mixture of typography. These products helped develop my ideas for my briefs as it demonstrated the elements in which help to display a narrative effectively and clearly.
